SUSD board looking at hiring McLaughlin to help with superintendent search

The Stockton Unified School District Board of Education is looking to hire controversial former Superintendent Jack McLaughlin as a consultant through the end of the year to assist the district in the wake of the current superintendent’s resignation.

Earlier this week, the board voted 4-3 to accept Superintendent John Deasy’s resignation, which will officially end his two-year tenure a year before his contract was set to expire.

An agenda for the board’s upcoming Tuesday meeting shows board members will vote on a contract for JJet, Inc. to “assist and advise the Board of Education and Superintendent on school district operations, transition to interim Superintendent, recruitment and selection of (Chief Business Officer), and other items as needed.”

McLaughlin is listed in accompanying agenda documents as employed by JJet, Inc. The company is operated out of Carson City, Nevada, and is described on its business license as a domestic corporation in which McLaughlin is listed as both the company’s president and treasurer. A website that operates under the JJet, Inc. name promotes screenplays and “scribblings” authored by McLaughlin.
