Witness describes harrowing scene after gunman opens fire, sending two to hospital

Two men were taken to a hospital after being shot in south Stockton on Tuesday afternoon, authorities say.

Three male victims were parked in a gold Lexus in the 100 block of West 10th Street when someone opened fire on the vehicle just after 3 p.m., said Rosie Calderon, a Stockton Police Department spokeswoman.

Police say two of the victims suffered gunshot wounds, but were alert and conscious when they were taken to the hospital and are currently in stable condition. The third person in the car was uninjured.

Lonnie Smith lives near where the shooting took place. He said that he saw a short, skinny Latino man in a black hoodie and baggie pants standing near the corner of Madison and West 10th Street when he came home at about 12:30 p.m. The man was looking down in the direction where the victims would later be shot, Smith said.

At about 3 p.m., Smith said he was in his house when he heard about four gunshots go off.

“I came out my front door and the same guy came running down the street with a gun in his hand,” Smith said of the man he saw standing on the corner earlier in the day.
